Timber & Forestlands
Much of our land that is un-tillable that had been logged in the early 50's and used for pasture has been replanted back to Douglas Fir for timber production. These trees over the next 40-60 years will produce clean air and give us a cleaner environment while providing wildlife habitat. In time these trees will provide materials for housing and other necessities that we all need. They are a renewable resource like the other crops we produce only their life cycle is over a much longer time period. They will add to the diversity for our future needs in order for our farm to prosper and survive
We have small acres of Oak Savanna upland habitat and Native plant sites that are slowly disappearing in our area. Oak's in our area grow to about 1,200' elevation. In these Oak Savanna Habitats there are several species of native grass and forbs that can be found. We have set aside some of these areas out of our normal production and plan on using these areas for native seed collection sites and introduce some species that were lost due to some of the more aggressive introduced species over the years. In the future most of these areas will disappear due to development and a low economic value that they hold so we feel that in time these areas will be an added asset.
