Timber Forestland

Timber and ForestlandMuch of our un-tillable land that had been logged in the early 50's and used for pasture has now been replanted back to Douglas Fir for timber production. Over the next 40-60 years, these trees will produce clean air and give us a healthier environment while providing wildlife habitat. In time, these trees will provide materials for housing and other necessities that we all need. They are a renewable resource like the other crops we produce, only their life cycle is over a much longer time period. They will add to the diversity for our future needs in order for our farm to prosper and survive.

We have a few acres of Oak Savanna upland habitat and Native plant sites that are slowly disappearing in our area. Oaks grow in elevations up to 1,200'. In these Oak Savanna Habitats there are several species of native grass and forbs that can be found. We have set aside some of these areas from our normal production and plan on using them for native seed collection sites. We want to introduce some species that were lost due to the introduction of some of the more aggressive species over the years. In the future, most of these areas will disappear due to the development and a low economic value that they hold; we feel that in time these areas that we have set aside will be an added asset.
